What the elder stateswoman of the U.S. Supreme Court has accomplished and overcome is impressive.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story star Felicity Jones has stepped out in her latest role — a young Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Jones, 33, plays the Supreme Court Justice in the movie On the Basis of Sex, which has released this first-look image as production gets underway in Montreal. The similarities between Jones and Ginsburg, now 84, are striking.
On the Basis of Sex tells a true story that “follows young lawyer Ruth Bader Ginsburg as she teams with her husband Marty to bring a groundbreaking case before the Supreme Court and overturn a century of gender discrimination,” according to a news release.
The film will be released in 2018 to mark Justice Ginsburg’s 25th anniversary on the Supreme Court.
Armie Hammer will play husband Martin Ginsburg. Justin Theroux, Kathy Bates and Sam Waterston have also joined the cast.
Mimi Leder is directing a script by Ginsburg’s nephew, Daniel Stiepleman.
“Our story of Ruth Bader Ginsburg resonates with me on so many levels — from the inspiring partnership she found in her marriage, to overcoming adversity as a woman and discovering the strength of her own voice, to her empathetic commitment to those in need of a voice no matter their gender, race, status or religious beliefs,” the director said in a statement.
“In these tumultuous times, stories like this speak to the heart of humanity and remind us what it means to lead with love and compassion as the way forward.”
