Vasanthi Duraiappah’s New Cookbook aims to raise money for Leukemia Research

“The Melting Pot Asian Gems” (published by Balboa Press AU)” shares recipes from countries that have played an important part in author Vasanthi Duraiappah’s life, with specialty dishes highlighting food from four different countries she has lived in.

“The Melting Pot Asian Gems” covers breakfast, main dishes, sweets and savories that are popular from Malaysia, Sri Lanka and India. It also has five popular Australian dishes. The book is intended to be an easy-to-follow cookbook that also raises money for leukemia research and health services.

“The inspiration for this book has come from the countries that played an important role in my life,” Duraiappah explains. “Due to their diverse styles and flavours, the foods from these four countries have heavily impacted the way I cook. In ‘The Melting Pot – Asian Gems,’ I try and use recipes from all these nations to express the influence of these various cultures on my journey through life. “

About the Author

Vasanthi Duraiappah is currently retired. She was a medical doctor with a PhD in public health. She resides in Australia and has involved herself in charity work for the last 25 years. She published her first cookbook “The Melting Pot – Malaysian Gems” in 2011. Her passion for cooking has led her into publishing her second cookbook – “The Melting Pot Asian Gems.” Duraiappah plans to donate the proceeds of the sale of this cookbook, as with her first cookbook, to fund services and research into leukemia.
