SALT LAKE CITY — Utah’s gymnastics program has dominated the attendance scene for years, having won six all-women’s sports attendance titles and 32 gymnastics attendance titles. In 2017, the team is averaging 15,166 home fans.
But what’s equally exciting for Utah’s program is the growth it’s seeing in television coverage in the Pac-12 market and across the nation. The coverage for meets is a lot of fun for the Red Rocks, especially when it comes before a national audience like last week’s home meet against fellow powerhouse UCLA.
ESPN picked up the meet to complement its SEC gymnastics coverage titled: Friday Night Heights. The ESPN meet is one of eight Utah will have televised this regular season. Sure, some could argue online streaming has been available for meets, but this is a new level in recent years of full television production. And the coverage is drawing in crowds and helping boost attendance numbers across the country.
