UFC on FOX 25 originates from Nassau Coliseum on Long Island, New York on Saturday, July 22nd. If we’re being honest with ourselves, this event is lacking in real big names, at least compared to some other FOX cards we’ve seen in recent years. It’s still a damn good event with plenty of fun, relevant, intriguing matchups, of which the main event pits former middleweight champion Chris Weidman against Kelvin Gastelum. This is Weidman’s third attempt to win in his home state of New York, and he’ll be looking to avoid a four-fight losing streak. Gastelum could be a future title challenger at 185, and beating Weidman would be a big deal even on Chris’ current skid.
The co-main sees Darren Elkins take on Dennis Bermudez, as Elkins looks to follow-up his insane comeback KO win over Mirsad Bektic by taking out a top-10 opponent (Elkins is ranked #11, mind you!). Light heavyweights Patrick Cummins and Gian Villante are unlikely to go the distance giving their defensive flaws, while the main card begins with a hot fire bantamweight tilt between Thomas Almeida and Jimmie Rivera. This is my personal main event.
We do have 13 fights but with 5 of them on Fight Pass and the FOX broadcast being split into a pair of two-hour windows, we should get some pretty brisk pacing out of this, which is fantastic. Here’s the full lineup for Saturday night:
Main Card (8 PM ET, FOX)
Preliminary Card (6 PM ET, FOX)
Preliminary Card (4 PM ET, Fight Pass)
