The weather is finally starting to warm up, but that doesn’t mean winter is over, and Sag Harbor will celebrate the season with the 2017 HarborFrost celebration, which will be held all day Saturday.
The community event hosted by the Sag Harbor Chamber of Commerce will celebrate its seventh year by presenting wide variety of activities and showcases for the local businesses throughout the harbor’s Main Street.
This year’s HarborFrost will be a crucial one for the Village of Sag Harbor, as it will be one of the first major public events for locals and visitors from out of town since the fire that seriously damaged the Sag Harbor Cinema and the Compass Realty building, leading to both buildings being torn down.
Chamber President Lisa Field said that from that tragedy came inspiration. “The theme of HarborFrost has always been ‘fire and ice,’ and anybody that was watching those firemen that day knows they were covered in ice,” Ms. Field said last week. “So we were coming up with ideas for HarborFrost, and we said, ‘Why don’t we incorporate some kind of a tribute to these firemen?’”
While Ms. Field didn’t give away too many details to save them for the festival, she did talk about a live ice sculpting demonstration that will be displayed at Long Wharf at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
