Pinstripe Alley’s favorite baseball movies

With the Oscars all over the news this morning thanks to the greatest moment in the history of the entire dang ceremony, it’s a good opportunity to revisit Hollywood’s best baseball movies (just go with it). It’s a popular topic, and one that has come up at PSA before, but since it’s been some time since then.

So I polled the staff on our favorite baseball movies. Our consensus was The Sandlot (no last-second wrong envelopes here), but let us know what you think!

Tanya Bondurant

My favorite baseball movie is The Sandlot. It is better than the other non The Sandlot baseball movies. Especially Bull Durham.

Andrew Mearns

Pride of the Yankees. I go back and forth between this, Major League, and Moneyball, but Pride of the Yankees is essentially a perfect movie. Put a marathon of these three on and it’s a good night though.

My favorite movie is The Sandlot.

I haven’t seen very many, so Angels in the Outfield is my default.

My favorite baseball movie is The Sandlot because it captures the spirit of the game through the wacky hijinks of children. It also has a lot of sand. Which gets everywhere. I love sand.

Air Bud: Seventh Inning Fetch, obviously.

The Sandlot since it reminds me of summer days, childhood in general and my childhood in particular. It captures the care-free whimsy that’s essentially at the root of the sport.

Major League. Why? My kinda movie, Charlie. My kinda movie.

Hardball. The scene where Keanu Reeves shows his team their new uniforms is iconic, as is the kid who pitches with “Big Poppa” playing.

The Sandlot is my all-time favorite baseball movie. As a ’90s child, the dynasty and The Sandlot shaped my love for baseball. Now if you’ll excuse me I’m trying to find my pair of PF Flyers.
