The fourth annual Opera Guild Gala, “Bravo! An Evening with Our Stars,” will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Bryant Conference Center.
The event will feature a formal dinner, silent and live auctions and entertainment by University of Alabama students and faculty, who will perform selections from opera and the musical theater.
Tickets are $100 per person and available at https://www.uaoperaguild.org. Proceeds will support the Opera Theatre at UA.
The silent auction will feature a photo safari for two people for six days and nights in the Zulu Nyala Game Preserve in South Africa.
Among other items being offered at the live auction will be a vacation at a Fort Morgan beach home, along with certificates for several area restaurants; a trip to New Orleans for two at the Monteleone Hotel, in addition to a jazz dinner cruise for two on the Natchez; and residence in a private home in Spain near Barcelona.
Another highlight of the live auction is a 14K diamond pendant from a local jeweler. A Tuscaloosa restaurant has offered a wine pairing for 40.
“For our silent auction we plan to offer around 50 items including a number of paintings and prints by local and nationally known artists, vacation accommodations, restaurant reservations, season tickets for Theatre Tuscaloosa and the Tuscaloosa Symphony, gift baskets, a wine-tasting at Napa, California, opera tickets in Atlanta and Pensacola; and a spa day with the works from a local spa,” said Leanne Spencer, co-chair of the fundraising project.
Faculty performers will include Susan Fleming, mezzo-soprano, professor of voice; Paul Houghtaling, bass-baritone, associate professor of voice; Susan Williams, soprano, assistant professor of voice; David Tayloe, assistant professor of voice; the accompanist will be Kevin Chance, assistant professor of piano.
