Needles, 85 spray paint cans among the haul at Bolsa Chica beach cleanup – Orange County Register

Nearly 200 volunteers combed Bolsa Chica State Beach during the Surfrider Foundation’s first beach cleanup of the year on Saturday, Jan. 13. Hundreds of straws, plastic bottle caps and more than 85 spray paint cans were among the many items found after the first storm of the year flushed trash down the local rivers dumping stuff on the beach. “It was a new years resolution to be more friendly to the earth,” said Stephanie Do, 22, of Long Beach, who came with with two friends to help in the efforts. “It’s the first one of 27 planned throughout the year,” said Tony Soriano, Chairman of the Huntington Beach/Seal Beach Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation. “Last year, we took 7 tons of trash off local beaches,” he added.
