Mayor to Lake Forest residents: ‘City is thriving’

LAKE FOREST – The city of Lake Forest is growing and thriving.

That was the overlying message from Lake Forest Mayor Scott Voigts to nearly 100 in attendance at the Mercedes Benz dealership in Foothill Ranch during the annual State of the City and Meet the Mayor event, put on in partnership with the Lake Forest Chamber of Commerce, Wednesday night.

“Lake Forest is thriving and has a strong commitment to our community and the businesses here,” Voigts said. “The city has a strong and deep-rooted commitment to public safety.”

Voigts thanked city staff members for their continued hard work and the Lake Forest Chamber of Commerce for attracting more businesses into the city. Among the big businesses, Cox Communications and Kawasaki moved their headquarters to Lake Forest in 2016. In all, 160 companies chose to operate in Lake Forest last year, Voigts said.

In the fall, Toshiba America Business Solutions will relocate to Lake Forest from Irvine, bringing with it 300 jobs, he added. Voigts said industrial portions of the city have a 94 percent occupancy rate, while office areas had a 92 percent occupancy rate.

“We have a good job climate here in Lake Forest,” he said.

To accomodate business executives traveling to the city for meetings and training, Voigts noted three recently-approved hotel projects along Rockfield Boulevard, adjacent to I-5. The hotels should bring in an extra $750,000 to $1 million in revenue when completed, he said.
