Magnitude 6.9 earthquake strikes off Fukushima in Japan, triggering tsunami warning

DEVELOPING: A magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck off the coast of Fukushima in Japan early Tuesday, triggering a tsunami warning with waves of up to 10 feet expected. 

The Japan Meteorological Agency says the quake struck around 6 a.m at a depth of 6 miles.

A tsunami of at least 3 feet was observed in the city of Soma Port in the city of Soma nearly an hour late, Japanese public broadcaster NHK reported. 

Firefighting officials in the city of Iwaki told NHK a fire broke out at a petrochemical complex in the district of Nishikimachi, but they have extinguished it.
