Hamilton and Curry are both in China this week and they linked up on the course during some hours of downtime.
Golden State Warriors point guard Curry is in Asia for pre-season while Hamilton is preparing for the Japanese Grand Prix.
Hamilton posted a video on Instagram of Curry wearing his yellow F1 helmet at the Mission Hills Golf Club and wrote: “Guess who this is…?”
Fans replied in their droves with some claiming it was Top Gear’s secret drier The Stig. Other names including Mark Webber, Max Verstappen and even Barack Obama were all guessed.
Curry took to the tee with a wood but could only take a chunk out of the tee box, much to the amusement of watching fans. The ball, meanwhile, squirted out a matter of yards to the right.
Curry then removed the helmet, demanded someone got his ball back before firing a tee shot down the middle of the fairway.
Despite the initial tee shot blunder – surely a result of wearing the helmet while playing – Curry is no stranger to the golf course.
He made his professional debut in the Web.com Tour’s Ellie Mae Classic in August where he carded two rounds of 74.
Curry, twice the NBA MVP, was handed a sponsor exemption to play in the event and he labelled the chance as “an amazing experience”.
He said: “I’ve been looking forward to this since I found out and to finally hit my first shot in tournament play was a really, really nervous moment but it was everything I hoped for.
“If you told me I was going to shoot 74 going into the first round I’d take that all day, every day. I’m pretty happy with it.”
Hamilton, meanwhile, has been busy battling for the Formula One world championship. He recorded a second-place finish at the Malaysian Grand Prix but his Mercedes team now head to Japan with more questions than answers.
