Hercules rodeo rolls on despite weather – Sports – Houma Today

The tide was still and the fishing was slow, but not for everyone, at the Krewe of Hercules Festival on the Bayou and Redfish Rodeo on Saturday.

The big news of the day was the 136.78-pound stingray landed by BeBe McElroy of Cocodrie, which holds first place in the miscellaneous category. If approved, it would move to seventh place in the Louisiana record books.

“It was slow with the rain,” Robert Higgin of Baton Rouge said. “The tides aren’t moving. Hopefully it’ll pick up soon. The tides have been dead for three weeks.”

Ricky Martinez echoed Higgins.

“The weather wasn’t cooperating, with the tides and stuff,” Martinez said. “But it just is what it is sometimes.”
