Eastbound 22 freeway reopens after hours-long closure for fatal crash

GARDEN GROVE – All lanes were open on the eastbound 22 freeway as of 7:48 p.m. Thursday, after an hours-long closure for a crash that left a motorcyclist dead.

Two drivers performed CPR on the male motorcyclist, identified by authorities as 52-year-old Gregory Cook of Orange, who paramedics pronounced dead at the scene, Garden Grove fire Capt. Brad Spell said.

No other injuries were reported.

A SigAlert was issued at 4:55 p.m. for the 22 at Valley View Street. The Knott Avenue and Valley View Boulevard on-rampswere closed at 5:22 p.m.

All parties remained at the scene and were cooperating with investigators from the California Highway Patrol.

What events led to the crash between a minivan and the motorcycle were still under investigation.
