Dust off classic cars for big shows this weekend

Dust off those classic and collector cars and get the car show season started off right with one of three big shows this weekend.

On Saturday in Palos Park it’s the return of Art & the Automobile. The show is a part of the Palos Park Love the Arts Fair celebrating the mastery of design and artistic value of the automobile.

This year Art & the Automobile has joined together with Greater Illinois Region – Classic Car Club of America (GIRCCCA) and local chapter of Classic Car Club of America to co-host the 2nd annual “Art and the Automobile.”

For the past 55 years, GIRCCCA’s members and leadership have shown their appreciation for the automotive arts by maintaining the nation’s largest privately held collections of classic cars.

At Art & the Automobile, GIRCCCA members will present many automobiles with art deco design cues, hence the theme of this year’s event, Art Deco Meets the Road.

These automobiles are some of the rarest 100-point cars in the Midwest. Many have been shown and won awards at America’s most prestigious concours shows, including Pebble Beach, Amelia Island, and The Elegance at Hershey.

The show kicks off with a Motogiro d’ Palos Park, or car parade, to allow participants and spectators to indulge in the sound, smell and feel of the automotive art on wheels.
