Ballon d’Or: The 2017 ceremony takes place tonight
Ronaldo is expected to lift a fifth Ballon d’Or at the Eiffel Tower tonight – equalling Lionel Messi’s record.
The Portugal star won it last year and after another stunning year – winning the Champions League and La Liga – is the hot favourite to win it again.
The ceremony is held in Paris this evening but stick with us as we bring you updates through the day as the rankings are slowly released.

Guess what, the 2017 Ballon d’Or award is a shoot-out between Lionel Messi, Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo.
There’s been plenty of speculation flying around that Ronaldo has this award locked down.
But we will know for sure in just a few minutes.
Gianluigi Buffon 4th
18:37: Gianluigi Buffon misses out on a top-three place.
That wasn’t unexpected – he was never realistically going to get the votes over Neymar, Messi and Ronaldo.
But what an achievement for a 39-year-old goalkeeper.
Buffon and his Juventus side lost the Champions League final back in the summer.
he won’t play in the World Cup either after Italy failed to qualify.
At least, then, he has this to console himself.
