Action-packed weekend for UAE Archery Association’s 2016 Emirates Cup

The UAE Archery Association (UAEAA) crowned new champions of the 2016 Emirates Cup at the weekend in Abu Dhabi.

The final stage of the 2016 season was held at the Armed Forces Officers Club in the capital, with the participation of more than 100 athletes from the UAE and a number of foreign competitors.

Several milestones were achieved, including the tournament becoming the largest hosted by the UAE, and in line with President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed’s “2017 Year of Giving” initiative to promote the practice of sport and healthy lifestyle habits.

The UAEAA waived all registration and participation fees.

The UAEAA’s secretary general Faisal Al Qasim said: “This tournament is the biggest in terms of number of players and the number of goals set, I see some of the ambitions began to be realised, and I see the number of players on rise, there are players I did not watch, and this shows there is a new accession by some of new players, we are on the right track.

“We started in 2013, and today we have 530 active archers. This is a good indicator.

“We call on everyone to adopt the sport and practise archery, from all ages and nationalities. This is a very special and wonderful sport that helps and develops the mental capacity, unlike other sports which rely only on physical strength.”
